Dragons Win by 5 Runs.
Thursday started bright and early as ever with the dragons ascending on mass to knoll park golf club for the annual golf match which this year was won by Charlie Farrant.
The Dragons then turned up to the Vine who seemed overly confident about their ability as they decided that 9 players would be enough to beat a strong dragons side! So after waiting to see if they could wip up a few more players the captains agreed to play a 30 over match. We won the toss and chose to bat, opening up with Jamie Churchman and Will Tavare who put on 90 before Will was caught on 42, bringing Chris Churchman out to bat with his son. Jamie however had decided that he’d actually prefer to bat with Anish, and so with his dad on just 1 run he very clearly called ‘yes’, waited for Chris to get halfway down the wicket and then sent him back, resulting in an easy run out for the vine. Jamie, now worrying about how long it was going to take to walk back to Headcorn, fell for 62 chipping one up to the bowler having lost his concentration. The rest of the dragons batting couldn’t really get going but a late cameo from Tom Farrant (16) and Ross Davies (20) got the Dragons to a respectable 177-7 off their 30 overs.
So the Dragons went out to field knowing they needed to bowl tightly to ensure another tour win. Sam Boyns (6-1-23-2) and Joe Williams (6-0-29-1) bowled well early on to reduce the Vine to 62-3. The Vine then settled down though and put on a partnership of 91 for the next wicket, a brilliant stumping by Jamie Churchman off Chris Arnold’s bowling. Shortly followed by an important run out a few balls later to bring in a new pair for the last few overs needing 24 to win. Fortunately the Dragons managed to keep their bowling and fielding tight and the Vine finished up on 172-5 off their 30 overs bringing up the Dragons 5th win of the week.
