Dragons win by 43 Runs.
The Dragons arrived at Linton Park for a 1 o’clock start, organised by the marvellous Alan Boyns, for a 35 over game to enable the festivities that evening to get off to a prompt start. Captain Arnold, watched by wife and offspring, marched out with brother Simon, also watched by wife and offspring, to large applause. Unfortunately the skipper was out after 2 minutes and 1 ball, stumped and departed to an afternoon of parental duties. Simon soon departed for 13 and the bulk of the runs came from Josh with 46 and Charlie ‘ten out of ten’ Farrant with 50. A belligerent knock by Tommy ‘Fat Boy’ Farrant, including a very large 6, enabled the innings to end on 184-7.
The highlight of the innings was undoubtedly the joy of the away fans applauding Simon ‘I need a wife’ Wade with a hearty chorus of ‘Wadey Wadey Wadey Oh.’
The Linton Park reply got off to a good start. Fortunately a good deal of barracking from Tour Manager and Senior Knob had the desired effect as a trickle of Linton Park wickets fell. The pick of the bowlers was Tommy ‘Fat boy’ Farrant with 3-32 off 7 overs, ably assisted by Jamie Churchman and Simon Arnold who picked up 2 wickets a piece. The innings closed with the opposition on 141-3 and the Dragons winning by 43 runs.
