Dragons Win by 44 Runs.
After a momentous evening of unrestrained joy, alcohol and “Wadey Wadey Wadey oh”, the Dragons paid their bills, vacated headquarters and headed for Egerton. A traditional hardcore team of 4 Mihills, 3 Churchmans, 2 Tavarés and 2 Farrants arrived in good heart on a sunny day with tea being prepared by an army of marvellous ladies. Little and large continued their wonderful double act and Matt Tavaré and Charlie Farrant set about the bowling in fine fettle. Matt Tavaré fell 4 short of 50 much to the huge disappointment of the crowd who were a little depleted, but were still looking marvellous in their exotic array of clothing, despite the cold weather. Matt was replaced by his brother Rob who put on another 50 partnership with Charlie ‘ten out of ten’ Farrant, who was spanking the ball well. Rob fell for a good 17 and was replaced by Josh Mihill who batted to the end of the innings, getting a very respectable 61 not out. Charlie went on to score 110, including 21 fours and 2 sixes. Therefore he only had to run 14 of his total, obviously saving himself for the evening and his collection of ten out of tens. The innings closed for a formidable 267-8 off the 40 overs with the pick of the Egerton bowlers being Rob Parnhan getting 3-46.
After a momentous tea on the grass, the Dragons bowling attack of Tom ‘Fat boy’ Farrant and Greg ‘Good looking’ Mihill started well to be then replaced by brothers Charlie and Tim. But the real damage came from Jamie Churchman, bowling 5-20 off 5.1 overs, bowling in tandem with his father Chris, who took 1-30 off 4 overs. The innings closed on 223 all out and with the dragons victorious by 44 runs. A momentous week of cricket came to an end and the retiring tour manager, who needed 8 runs on tour to reach the milestone of 2000 runs for the dragons, had managed 4 runs in total in 3 games and looks forward to batting at Egerton next year, with 4 runs required.
