Dragons vs. Old Ruymians, Chatham House, 2015
Match drawn.
Inserted by OR’s, the old pros and captain Josh showed their experience of subterranean cricket at Ramsgate. The scorecard had a familiar look with Jeremy Page, Chris Churchman contributing but Simon Wade’s solid half century when the Dragons were in at a slightly precarious 68-5 was invaluable. Josh Mihill bounced back after the disappointment of the previous day with a well constructed 31.
The OR innings left one wondering whether an extra portion of fish and chips on the seafront would have been a better option! Few will have played in games where 22 of the 38 overs bowled were maidens. Will Downes made early inroads eventually returning 12-7-3-20. Thereafter the contest to see who could bowl a maiden over (literally rather than metaphorically!) followed. Wadey was expensive with 2 out of 5, Boynsie was frugal 6 out of 7 and Boozer miserly with 4 out of 5. In the end we were probably ‘Zigged’ as the old stalwart batted out the overs for a very prolonged 0. Where was Church to open the game up as he did in the late 80’s when we lost defending 295!
Dragons 200-8 (J Page 44; S Wade50; C Ross 5-42)
Old Ruymians 61-9 (W Downes 3-20)
